Extension Project (CIS HKEP):

“In order to broaden CIS students’ (and hopefully Hong Kong’s) knowledge of how education works in Hong Kong, we are planning a new documentary about the rich variety of schools that make up the education sector in Hong Kong.

We are looking at a range of around 10 schools (from band three schools to top DSS schools, plus international schools and ‘dedicated’ schools like Montessori) to send two students with a camera to do some research into what different schools are like. The footage will then be compiled into a documentary that showcases the different types of schools in Hong Kong that, like Victor Yin’s documentary ‘One Education, Two Systems’, will be available for all schools as reference.

My wish is that this will continue the mission Victor started with ‘One Education, Two Systems’ to inform and educate us about the different education experiences in Hong Kong and, through this, bridge the divide between different sectors of society.”

“Hong Kong is a diverse society home to students from many different backgrounds. ‘One Education, Two Systems’ explores a fascinating topic using a thoughtful experiential approach, bringing students from the local and international school systems closer together. Congratulations to our student team!

From Bernard Charnwut Chan, Non-Official Member of the Executive Council

“Really awesome to see a great concept and a balanced view on the difference of these two systems – great job done by the students involved. Definitely a few budding stars to watch out for!”

From Austin Stark, Wylde Color

“It may start with inspiring teachers, but sometimes the students go on to inspire the teachers. […] This is a beautiful example of CIS student-teacher synergy in bridging the divide in a highly stratified and divided society.”

From Ted Faunce, Headmaster at CIS

“Congrats to all involved with the documentary ONE EDUCATION; TWO SYSTEMS directed by Victor Yin. It follows a 4 day exchange program between students of the Chinese International School (CIS) and Salem Immanuel Lutheran College (ILC) in Hong Kong. Filmed by students from both schools and developed into a documentary, it offers an interesting insight into two different education systems in Hong Kong shown from the students POV.”

From Mike Leeder, Film producer at Neon Grindhouse: Hong Kong

“There are times when I have to pinch myself to see whether I am really as lucky as I am to teach at this amazing school. Friends far and wide, if you see anything I recommend this year, please make it ‘One Education, Two Systems’, a film about Education in Hong Kong made by my amazing students under the leadership of the amazing, inspiring Victor Yin.”
